Today is the 21st Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Today, the National Association of Letter Carriers is partnering with Campbell Soup Company to collect non-perishable food and deliver it to local food banks and shelters. According to their website, thanks to the generosity of American families and the hard work of our nation’s Letter Carriers, over 70 million pounds of food was collected last year and Campbell’s is kicking off this year’s drive with a pledge of 1 million pounds of food to Feeding America. Just in case you don’t think hunger is a problem in the United States, consider that a recent US Department of Agriculture study found that more than 50 million Americans, including 17 million children, are food insecure, or at risk of hunger. So today is a great day to pack a bag, not for a trip or vacation, but to help make sure that your fellow Americans will not go hungry tonight.
